Planning building, roofing or maintenance work? Here are straightforward answers to the questions we are most often asked about scaffolding in Brighton, Hove and across Sussex. If you cannot find what you need, speak to the HTK team and we will be happy to help.
Every scaffold is priced according to the size of the property, the number of working lifts, access, height, location and any additional requirements. The quickest way to receive an accurate price is to send us the property address, photographs and details of the work. HTK provides fixed quotations with no hidden costs.
The main factors are the length and height of the scaffold, the number of boarded working lifts, access to the property and how long it is required. Extras such as temporary roofs, chimney access, beams, loading bays, netting and pavement licences can also affect the price.
Our standard quotations normally include an agreed hire period, which will be clearly shown on your quote. If your project takes longer, contact us before the hire period ends and we can explain the available extension options.
A straightforward residential scaffold can often be erected within a day. Larger or more complicated structures may take longer. We will give you a realistic timescale when arranging the work.
The scaffolding contractor normally makes the application because the council requires details about the scaffold and evidence of suitable public liability insurance. Where a licence is required, HTK will explain the cost and application timescale before the work begins.
You do not normally need your neighbour’s permission when the scaffold remains entirely within your own property. If it needs to stand on, overhang or be accessed through a neighbour’s property, their permission may be required. We recommend discussing this with them as early as possible.
In many cases, yes. We may be able to bridge over a conservatory, extension, porch or other obstruction using beams. We will need clear photographs or a site visit to decide on the safest and most suitable arrangement.
Sometimes rear access is only possible through the property. We will assess the route, protect surfaces where agreed and discuss whether the required materials can be carried through safely. Please tell us about narrow doors, tight corners or valuable finishes before the job is booked.
Properly designed and erected scaffolding is built to withstand normal British weather conditions. Strong winds and severe weather can create additional risks, particularly when sheeting or netting is fitted. Never alter the scaffold yourself and contact HTK immediately if you notice movement, damage or anything unusual.
Scaffolding should be inspected before first use, at least every seven days while in use and after events that could affect its safety, such as severe weather or significant alterations. The person responsible for the site must ensure the required inspections are arranged and recorded.
Yes. HTK uses trained scaffolders and works in line with recognised industry guidance, including TG20 and SG4. We hold £10 million public liability insurance and £10 million employers’ liability insurance. Handover certificates, RAMS and supporting safety information can be provided as required.
No. Scaffolding should only be altered by a competent scaffolder. Removing boards, moving ladders or changing ties and guardrails can make the structure unsafe. If your contractor needs a change, stop and contact HTK so we can arrange the correct adaptation.
Our team takes care when erecting and dismantling every scaffold. We assess ground conditions, protect vulnerable areas where required and select suitable tie positions. Please make us aware of fragile roofs, paving, render, glazing or underground services before work begins.
We agree the planned removal date when the scaffold is booked wherever possible. If your work finishes earlier or the date changes, let us know as soon as possible so we can arrange collection. Our aim is simple: Up safe. Down fast.
Tell us what work you are planning and we will give you clear advice and a fixed quotation.
