A straightforward scaffold on a house can often be put up within a day. Larger or more complicated scaffolds, such as full wraps on tall buildings, temporary roofs or commercial sites, can take several days or be built in phases.

What makes it take longer
- Size and height: every extra lift and elevation adds time.
- Access: carrying materials through a house or along a path is slower than unloading next to the building.
- Bridging: beams over conservatories, extensions and porches take extra time. See our conservatory guide.

- Weather: high winds can stop scaffolders working safely.

Delays before the start date
The most common delay is not the build itself but what has to happen first. If the scaffold goes on the pavement, a licence is needed before it can go up, so allow time for the council. How long does it take to take down?
Dismantling is usually quicker than erecting. At HTK we agree the removal date when the scaffold is booked, so you know when it is going up and coming down.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be at home when the scaffold goes up?
Not always, but we need clear access to the areas being scaffolded, and gates left unlocked. We will confirm what we need when we book.
Can scaffolding go up in the rain?
Light rain is usually fine. High winds are the main reason work stops.
Can the scaffold be put up the day before my roofer starts?
Often, yes. Book as early as possible so the dates line up.
